Uncertain Times? Secure Your Clients’ Philanthropic Legacy Now

As we step into a new year, uncertainty seems to be the only constant. From the wildfires of California to shifting political landscapes and the rapid evolution of AI, we are all experiencing significant change.

Amidst this upheaval, one thing remains steadfast for your family office and family foundation clients—their ability to make an impact through philanthropy.

In addition to financial resources, your families hold something even more valuable: wisdom.

The older generations have lived through tumultuous times, made difficult decisions, and directed their giving based on lessons learned. Their stories and insights can serve as a guiding light for the next generation—if they are captured and preserved.

As an advisor, you might already be helping them do this in a myriad of ways – whether it’s through conversations during strategic planning or helping them with an ethical will.

When we work with clients, we typically capture their life story, but some clients are hesitant about embarking on a full-scale legacy video project or have other things they would rather focus on. In this case, a shorter initiative can be an excellent starting point.

One recent project we worked on with a family foundation exemplifies this approach. Years ago, they created a life story video about the G1 (Patriarch)—his upbringing, his business, and his growing family. However, that video didn’t delve into his philanthropic vision.

With an uncertain future ahead, this patriarch wanted to ensure that his grandchildren and future generations would understand not just that he gave back, but why and how he gave back. With this focus in mind, he was able to articulate his core values, the causes closest to his heart, and his hopes for the foundation’s ongoing work in a 10-minute film.

Capturing a founder’s thoughts on philanthropy like this in a concise and meaningful way can be an easier and more approachable first step for some clients—and one that delivers immediate value.

Many of your clients may be navigating leadership transitions or bringing new family members into the fold. A philanthropy-focused legacy video can help bridge generational gaps, foster continuity, and inspire future stewards of a family’s giving mission. By documenting these philosophies now, families ensure that their guiding principles remain intact, even in uncertain times.

If you have clients who haven’t yet preserved their legacy or shared their philanthropic vision with the next generation, let’s connect. A film focused on giving and values could be the tool they need to solidify their impact for generations to come.
