When my kids were younger, they both used to get high fevers. (My older son once got to 106 degrees!) They were sick constantly, with seemingly every ailment possible. Strep throat? Of course. Coxsackie virus? Several times. Scarlet fever? My son’s cheeks actually changed colors!
I became so experienced that many friends would ask my advice when their kids got sick. I’d joke that I had an honorary degree in medicine.
In truth, of course, I’m not a doctor. I don’t even play one on TV.
But I think it’s why I love working on health-related video content – or truthfully – anything I don’t know that much about.
I believe that making a relatable video understandable to a broader audience is best achieved when we come from the place of the learner. Only by learning the content and internalizing it can we teach it effectively.
February is American Heart Month, so I wanted to share this video we created for the National Association of Community Health Centers about statin drugs. Though the video was created for healthcare providers, the information is presented in a simplified way that’s useful for anyone.
With so many people at high risk for heart disease and not taking a statin drug, it’s an eye-opening video everyone should watch.
Another reason why working with an outside storyteller is so valuable? People within an organization are so familiar with their subject matter that they may overlook what a general audience doesn’t understand.
They create content that may not be as relatable because they gloss over concepts they think are common knowledge.
By hiring an outside vendor to create the content, you can help ensure that the content is engaging and accessible.
Do you need help breaking down something complex into something simple to share with your audience? Please get in touch – it’s one of our favorite things to do!
