My heart has been hurting for two weeks after the brutal and violent terrorist attacks on Israel. There is no justification for hate based on race or religion, yet it persists. I am struggling to make sense of it all in a world that often doesn’t make sense.
In these dark days, I’m finding a bit of hope in the work of several of my family foundation clients.
They are determined to end hate and violence and are using their resources toward programs that create understanding and connection with those of different races, religions, and cultures.
Last week, I found a little more hope when I attended a workshop led by 21/64, a nonprofit that specializes in working with multiple generations of family foundations so they can work, give, and serve together more effectively. The attendees were a group of 20 passionate individuals concerned about the wrongs in the world and want to support their clients who have the resources to make positive change. The focus of the workshop was on how we can understand and work more successfully with family foundations.
The video I’m sharing this month was created for the founder of a private family foundation. Though the intention was for his children and grandchildren to understand his feelings about the power of philanthropy, I think what he shares here could resonate with anyone. Though most of us may not have the same assets as a family foundation, I think the point he makes is that whether your resources are in the form of money or time, there is always something you can do to influence change in the world. Wishing for better days ahead and peace.
