It’s just before Valentine’s Day, so I thought I would come clean and admit – I’m a sucker for a romantic comedy. People always think I watch documentaries 24/7 when I’m not working but, truth be told, I love a sappy romantic comedy – the sillier the better. (The Wedding Planner, When Harry Met Sally, Sixteen Candles… all guilty pleasures!)
Most romantic comedies always seem to begin with a disastrous and hilarious “first meeting” scene with our starring pair, who will obviously be a “happily ever after” couple by the end of the movie.
So, imagine my elation when my recent personal history client Nancie shared her first date story with me. The way she met her future husband could easily have been the start of my new favorite movie! I thought I would share it for those of you who also appreciate a good Romcom or whose own first meeting story was not so perfect. (Make sure to watch until the very end, and apologies in advance for a bit of strong language.)
What I loved about this project was that Nancie was not only a wonderful storyteller, but she remembered so many details of her life and wanted to recount them all. We spent four full filming days and captured 16 hours of her stories. We cataloged them all for her archives, but then edited everything down into a two-hour film.
Sometimes people feel overwhelmed when thinking about sharing their life story, so they don’t begin. But I promise – for anyone thinking they might have too much to say – just breaking it down into smaller sessions really helps and, as Nancie shares, is a wonderful way to spend time reminiscing.

LOL! What a wonderful story.
Thanks Debbie for making my day
(Don’t tell your mother but it’s my favorite word too.)
You know I’m a sucker for a good (or even a just so-so) RomCom! Loved hearing Nancie tell her story.
