Today is the first full day in office for our first ever female Vice President of the United States. It’s an historic day and gives me hope for our future – and particularly hope in the power of women.
But as my Dad has always said, “No one gets to this place on their own. There are people before us that helped pave the way.” So it gives me great pride to be able to work with organizations that lift others up.
I was thrilled when we recently had the opportunity to work with Counterpart International and help promote their WomenLead Institute. WLI invests in women from all over the world – maximizing their leadership potential so they can become stronger leaders, promote gender equality and create change in their communities.
What was really interesting about creating this video is that rather than seeing the pandemic as a limitation, we took advantage of the fact that most everyone is used to being on and seeing Zoom calls. Though we filmed two short interviews in-person outside, all of the other material we gathered was either through recorded Zoom interviews, existing photos and video, or stock photos and video. I was able to connect with three women from three different countries – Indonesia, Liberia and Nigeria – plus a funder in New York. (Click here to watch the video in its entirety.)
The quality may not have been as high as I would normally prefer, and internet connections were sometimes a challenge, but the content more than made up for it as we were able to connect and hear the stories of these women that we may not have otherwise heard from. It became a much more budget friendly production that we were able to finish on time.
